Bengaluru Repair Event Invites Residents to Fix Rather Than Discard Goods

Saahas, a social enterprise working on sustainable waste management, is hosting its annual repair event, Repair Maadi, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Indian Institute of World Culture in Basavanagudi. The free walk-in event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers residents hands-on help fixing household items instead of throwing them away.

What the event offers

According to Saahas, the day includes a laptop maintenance workshop, carpentry sessions using discarded wood pieces, and craft demonstrations that turn fabric waste into decorations. Visitors can also bring items that need repair, including shoes, clothes, umbrellas, appliances, laptops, suitcases and bags, to be fixed on site by skilled repair workers.

The reasoning behind the initiative

Saahas said the event is designed to encourage people to extend the life of everyday items rather than replace them during sale or discount seasons. "The idea is to keep things useful for longer and resist the temptation of buying new stuff every sale/discount season," the organization said in a release, adding that the approach reduces waste while supporting the livelihoods of cobblers, tailors, electricians and other repair professionals.

Where and how to participate

The event takes place at the Indian Institute of World Culture on B.P. Wadia Road in Basavanagudi. Entry is open to anyone who wants to walk in during the stated hours, whether to get an item repaired or to learn basic repair skills themselves. No registration details were specified in the release, so interested residents should plan to arrive within the 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. window to take part.
