M6 Chip Brings Faster Graphics and AI Processing to Apple's 14-Inch MacBook Pro

Apple is refreshing its professional laptop line with a 14-inch MacBook Pro built around the new M6 chip, aimed at students, creative professionals and power users who need more on-device computing muscle. The update pairs a faster 12-core CPU with expanded AI hardware, longer battery life and upgraded wireless connectivity, while pre-orders open October 28 ahead of a November 6 release.

Performance and AI gains

Apple says the M6's 12-core CPU is the fastest it has shipped in this class, delivering up to 30% faster graphics and a 25% jump in on-device AI processing compared with the M5-equipped model. For owners still running an M1 MacBook Pro, Apple cites gains as large as 11 times in graphics output and 13 times in AI workloads. Those figures come from Apple's own testing and should be treated as manufacturer estimates rather than independent benchmarks.

The AI improvements stem from added Neural Accelerators and a dual 16-core Neural Engine, which let the laptop run tasks such as image generation and photo processing directly on the device. Keeping that work local, rather than routing it through cloud servers, is positioned as a privacy benefit since user data doesn't need to leave the machine for these functions.

Connectivity, display and battery life

The new model adds support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, improving wireless throughput and reducing latency for tasks like large file transfers and video conferencing. Apple pairs this with faster internal storage, intended to keep large media files responsive. Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours, which would allow extended use away from a power outlet, though real-world results typically vary with screen brightness and workload.

The familiar Liquid Retina XDR display returns, offering high brightness and contrast suited to photo and video editing. A 12-megapixel Center Stage camera and a six-speaker sound system round out the hardware for video calls and media playback. The laptop is available in space black and silver.

Materials, pricing and software

Apple says the chassis uses 45% recycled materials, including a fully recycled aluminum enclosure, as part of its broader goal to make its supply chain carbon neutral by 2030. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999, with education pricing available for students and eligible staff.

The machine ships alongside macOS 27, which Apple says includes an updated Siri with added AI features and productivity tools built into system apps. Apple Vice President of Hardware Engineering Shelly Goldberg said the combination of CPU, graphics, AI capability and battery life is intended to serve a wide range of users. Buyers can also use Apple's trade-in program or leasing options to offset the cost of upgrading from older models.
