American Battery Solutions Debuts 800-Volt Pack Built for Heavy-Duty Electrification

American Battery Solutions (ABS) introduced its Aventor battery platform at The Battery Show North America, aiming the new system at commercial, industrial and specialty vehicle electrification programs. Built domestically with U.S.-sourced cells, the platform is engineered to meet Build America, Buy America (BABA) compliance requirements while targeting the energy density and durability demands of heavy-duty OEMs.

What the Platform Delivers

Aventor runs on an 800-volt architecture, achieving a volumetric energy density of 300Wh/L and a gravimetric density of up to 200Wh/kg. A single pack holds 113kWh of usable energy and can output peak discharge power of 358kW. ABS says the system supports fast charging from 10% to 80% in 42 minutes or less, a figure relevant for fleet operators who need to minimize vehicle downtime between duty cycles.

Two Configurations for Different Use Cases

The platform is offered in two physical formats. The Chassis-Integrated Pack is designed for packaging efficiency, fitting between vehicle frame rails or in other constrained horizontal spaces, including roof mounts. The Hyper-Rugged Cube Pack instead uses a reinforced enclosure and a load-path design intended for equipment exposed to heavy vibration, shock and intensive operating conditions, with support for multiple mounting orientations. ABS CEO Subhash Dhar said the goal was to raise energy density without compromising the safety, durability and performance heavy-duty OEMs require.

Monitoring, Safety and Durability Features

Aventor uses a wire-free battery management system, with microprocessors and onboard data storage built into each cell group to support diagnostics and reduce wiring complexity. ABS lists additional safeguards including cybersecurity protections, over-the-air software updates, active isolation monitoring, vent-gas detection and anti-propagation measures. The platform is designed to meet ASIL-C under ISO 26262, along with FMVSS 305a, UL 2580 and ECE R100 standards. Enclosures carry IP67 and IP69K ratings for water immersion and high-pressure washdown, and ABS targets a service life of up to 10 years for heavy-duty applications.

Production Timeline

Developed under ABS's IATF 16949-certified quality management system, Aventor is scheduled to reach customer sampling in 2027, with production targeted for the first quarter of 2028. Initial manufacturing capacity is planned at 6,000 battery packs per year, equivalent to roughly 0.7GWh - figures that suggest an early-stage ramp rather than mass-market volume, with actual output depending on customer orders and qualification timelines.
